Wedding Wise Wednesday - October 29

Every Week, I bring you the best wedding stories, stuff, events and deals in Los Angeles and from around the web. And we call it Wedding Wise Wednesday. Welcome!

Cool Wedding Thing of the Week:

I officiated Rebecca and Gareth's wedding last Friday at Elysian, and they asked me to help them create an English tea wedding ritual for them. Rebecca's English and Gareth is from New Zealand, so  drinking tea is a big part of their culture. We used a tea set from the many in Rebecca's collection. As they poured tea for each other and drank, I recited:

Gareth and Rebecca have also created a new ritual of their own - An English tea ceremony- to symbolize their commitment to each other and their new life from this day forward. Rebecca, Gareth, a pot of tea is one constant that you will share together for the rest of your lives - when you wake, before you sleep, in good times, and in bad. Whatever the day brings, you will begin and end it by facing the world as one, strong in your love for each other.

I was so happy that I was able to give them what they wanted, and I can't wait to see the photographer's pictures of it. It was pretty neat. Thank you to Great Officiants for giving me the best side-job, ever. Now, go make this viral!

Cool, Too:
I think I'm finally getting this iphone picture taking thing down. Here are Gareth and Rebecca's flower girls, rocking it out on the currently empty dance floor. They got company pretty quick, though!

And a shot from Kristi and Chris's wedding at Point Vicente in Palos Verdes. Not just a gorgeous night, but earlier? There were whales!

Kelly and Joshua, 10/12/14
First of all, congratulations to Kelly and Joshua! Their wedding at Orcutt Ranch in West Hills on Sunday was beautiful, it was fun, and as promised, they burned up the dance floor. I can't wait for Honey Honey's pictures, but in the meantime, here's a shot I took on the fly, and you can check out their photobooth pictures on Snap Yourself's Facebook page.

From The Broke-Ass Bride: Save Yourself a Headache - Make A Wedding Website

Wedding Wisdom from Christen at The Broke-Ass Bride. The Wedding Expert/ Planner (aka, Me) heartily concurs. Take it away, Chris:

You won't regret it. Seriously.
have a friend who just got engaged this summer (yayyyy!!!!) and is getting married this December (UM.) so I’ve been helping her as much as I possibly can from a distance (I’m in Texas, she’s in Wyoming). They found a venue, figured out a date, nailed down some other pertinents and she got to designing their e-vites, since she’s a graphic design artist and all.

Upon asking my opinion on her invites, which were gorgeous, I let her know that I felt they looked a little cluttered — they had info regarding kids, dress code, etc. on the invites themselves. Normally, that information would go on an accompanying card or said card would simply have the couple’s “wedsite” URL on there. And, under circumstances where they have more than a couple of months to plan and are also sending out Save the Dates, the wedding website address would be included on those.

But, for this couple, time is short and expediency is of the utmost importance.
I asked where her wedding website was. *Cue crickets* To which I responded:
Save Yourself a Headache and Make a Damn Wedding Website.
Here’s the thing, you guys, it’s true. You will be saving yourself a headache. You WILL be asked ALL OF THE QUESTIONS. And you're already pouring a lot of time, energy and effort into planning the damn thing, so don't become your wedding’s PR person, too. Let the Internetz do that for you. Because you don't want to be the one trying to tell cousin Joe how to get to the venue while you're trying to get your hair and makeup done, even though he has a smartphone and Google and an Internet browser ON HIS PHONE. (Also: If you're answering your phone on the day of your wedding, you’re totally breaking one of my cardinal rules.)

And, a SPECIAL SHOUT-OUT to Dana La Rue (Park), the OG Broke-Ass Bride and my ex-blog boss, who got married Sunday night. You and Paul are awesome, and I am thrilled for you. Congratulations, and please keep sending pictures of your honeymoon, because I need more bucket list items.  I Love you, Bee Bop! And welcome to the family, Paul!

Brides.Com Asked Liz: How to Plan Your Wedding When You're Shy

Okay, fine, they asked a few other wedding pros, too:
Bride on Wedding Day

A Complete Wedding-Day Survival Guide for Introverts
By  Elizabeth Mitchell, Brides.com
(Re-printed with permission)

Overwhelmed by large crowds? Hate being the center of attention? Need alone time to reenergize? Then you might be an introvert! And as excited as you are for your wedding, chances are, you're also dreading the whole all eyes on you all night, small talk, go-go-go aspect of it. Whether you're planning a big day or a small one though, there are certain things you can do to help minimize anxiety and get rid of some of those pre-wedding jitters.
Face the front.
For brides (and grooms) with stage fright, renowned wedding officiant Reverend Clint Hufft suggests couples not face directly at each other during the ceremony but angle their bodies a bit toward the front. "The goal is to allow the guests to observe and feel connected to the couple but give the couple a 'safe place' to focus completely on each other and the moment."
Keep it small.
Because let's be real, the less small talk you have to do the better, right? If you can swing it and your fiancĂ© is also on board, a smaller wedding that really only includes your nearest and dearest family and friends is definitely the way to go, advises Lauren Randolph, founder of My Hotel Wedding. "This way, you aren't bombarded by people you barely know."
