Wedding Wise Wednesday, May 29 (Los Angeles Wedding Planner)

Every Wednesday, I bring you the best wedding stories, deals and events in Los Angeles and from around the web. And we call it Wedding Wise Wednesday. Welcome!

Cool Wedding Thing of the Week:

I love it when I discover some new way of doing anything, that I never thought of before. New to me, that is. Offbeat Bride has a fantastic article today called "Waving the white napkin, and 7 other things you see at Deaf weddings." Skip the ceremony music, but not the bass tempo beat at the reception. Skip the tall centerpieces, and wave napkins in the air when you want the bride and groom to kiss. Lots more tips, and a few that non-hearing impaired couples can use, too. It sounds so...peaceful, doesn't it? Enjoy!

Ask Liz: Elopements and Other Wedding Schemes (Los Angeles Wedding Coordinator)

My weekly advice column on The Broke-Ass Bride is up:

Dear Liz, My fiancĂ© and I want to get married soon due to some recent transitions in our lives (moving, new job,etc.). Because of our (very tight) budget, We’re hoping to have a courthouse wedding and maybe a dinner with some family and close friends , about 20 people. What are some things we can do to make it special? I imagine we won’t have a first dance at a restaurant.

Sincerely,

Classing Up the Courthouse

Rehearsals on the Fly and Paying Your Vendors in Full? (Los Angeles Wedding Planner)

My weekly advice column on The Broke-Ass Bride is up:

Not at your venue? Still possible. (Photo by Front Room Photography)
Dear Liz,
Here is my quandary…my fiance and I are getting married in September and our venue is so booked solid that we can’t get rehearsal time in the space the week before. Even though the wedding is in the city where we live (Chicago), nearly all of our families are traveling for it, including most of our wedding party, so we can’t ask them to come in earlier just to do a run-through. We wanted to have a dinner for the wedding party to thank them and touch base with them anyway, so we will actually be getting them all together at a restaurant the day before, so I was wondering if there was some way we could try to do one, or parts at least–there. I’ve heard of this being managed, but I can’t really picture how it would work. I know some people don’t do rehearsal dinners at all, but I really want to be able to have a run-through with everyone—I’m not a control freak (the bridesmaids picked their own dresses and shoes, etc., and we’ve been really flexible with each others’ families and their wishes) but it’s been freaking me out a little not to have this part settled, and to think of everyone going into the ceremony cold. Any suggestions?
Signed,
Practice Makes Perfect
