My Wedding Revolution

I want to revolutionize the way couples think about their weddings. I want you to focus on that day as a gathering of all the people you love, and who love you, celebrating your marriage to the love of your life. I want you to focus not just on what you want the day to look like, but what you want it to feel like. I want you to have as much fun planning your wedding as you can, and I want you to look for the fun at every turn. I want you to believe that you can have the wedding that you want, whatever that looks like to you. I want you to learn what the "rules" are, and why the rules are, so you can break them. I want you to not be afraid to break them. I want you to believe that whatever it is that you have to do, it will all get done. I want you to use the resources you have to get what you want. I want you to remember that you do have all the resources you need. I want to teach you how to balance pragmatism and your vision of your wedding day. I want you to use your experience planning this great big, messy, beautiful, joyful bundle of a day as a lesson on how to manage the rest of your great big, messy, beautiful, joyful bundle of a life.
That's all. :-)

Rocking it Out...On a Small Dance Floor?

Oh, the music, the music. One of the benefits of being a wedding planner is that I'm front and center of some really good parties. Ones where you can't the folks off the dance floor to have dinner. Ones where they've had to take out a table to have space for more people on the dance floor. And that last part? Is not a bad thing.

Bill Child, one of my regular, most awesome D.J.s, actually pointed this out to me a while back. Small dance floors are better, if you're talking about a party. Wait, what? Don't you want more boogie space, not less?
Once he told me that, I started to look around at my weddings, and he's right. Here's the thing - you want to attract the most people to the floor as you can. But a lot of people are shy and not everyone is going to automatically get out there. What combats shyness? Anonymity. And what contributes to anonymity? Being part of a bigger crowd? And what makes a crowd look bigger? A smaller space? Four people looks like a rave on a small dance floor, and draws other people in. No one has ever left a dance floor because there wasn't enough room.

Have you experienced this, too? Or do you disagree? Let me know in the comments below.

What Wedding Coordination Feels Like On My End.

I hooked up with MiNeeds.com, which one of those website matching service providers with the people who need them. I responded to a woman looking for a day-of coordinator with this:

Hi, I'm Liz Coopersmith with Silver Charm Events (www.silvercharmevents.com). My day-of coordination service is more like a month of service. I contact all of your vendors and put together a detailed timeline for the day. This timeline will be given to all of your vendors and any members of your wedding party or family that may need it. I will also make sure that they have everything that they need for your wedding, whether that's time, resources, equipment, whatever is needed. Day-of also includes your wedding rehearsal, and 8 additional hours/meetings for errands, meeting with vendors on your behalf, whatever it is that you need.
On your wedding day, I will have an assistant with me, so there will be two of us to make sure that everything runs beautifully, and that all you and your family have to do is just enjoy the day. After all, that's what it's all about, right?
I'm very passionate about what I do. And what I do is to show couples how it's all going to work out, how at the end of the night, it's going to be you and the love of your life rockin' out that dance floor. To help you bring this beautiful day that you've created to life, right before your eyes. You should have the wedding you want, whatever that looks like to you. And that's my job. :-)

Talk to you soon,

Liz Coopersmith

I think that about sums it up. When I wrote that I was grinning, thinking about Angie with her shoes off, feet on the table, laughing hysterically outside with her friends. Nikki wandering around with a Heineken in her hand, bopping along to the music. At Ari and Brian seeing each other for the first time, when the world only consisted of just them. I love this gig. I REALLY do.

So, if you'd like to know what wedding coordination is going to feel like for you, email me at liz@silvercharmevents.com, or call my office at 323-592-9318. I'll get you there...

Busy Weekend Even Without A Wedding

...or a speaking engagement, for that matter. I got into the office at 8:30 this morning, and probably won't be leaving until 8:30 tonight. What have I been doing here, you ask? I uploaded a new cover for my Kindle Book, updated my Author's page on Amazon, attempted to record a video explaining The Olive Garden wedding reception rule (might have to do that again), worked on my upcoming blog post for weddingwire.com, and sent stuff to my web chick to update my site. Oh, and somewhere in there I finalized the ceremony that I'm performing on Wednesday at the Griffith Observatory.

Wow. Twelve Hours.
It's like I always tell my brides. You keep slogging away at this stuff, and eventually you turn around and it's all done.
Productivity RULES.
Especially when you can get it all done and still pin on pinterest, which is where the pinky, frothy yumminess above comes from. My Vow Renewal 2013 board is shaping up. No, Zane doesn't know anything about it...why?
So, what did you guys do today?

See you at the end of the aisle,

Wedding Wise Wednesday - February 22

Every Wednesday, I bring you the best wedding stories, deals and events in Los Angeles and around the web. And we call it Wedding Wise Wednesday. Welcome!

Cool Wedding Thing of the Week: The coolest - today, February 22nd, is my ninth wedding anniversary. Nine years! I've already put together a Pinterest board for vow renewal ideas for our 10th next year (!), including these completely awesome Vera Wang flats. It took me awhile to join the Pinterest band wagon, but I am now all in. I'm all about the Pretty.

Cool, Too: Meeting new people that give you good advice that you can pass on. Airfare to Hawaii is going up by $100 - 200 by the end of the month. High gas prices are the culprit. So if you're planning to Honeymoon on the islands, make your reservations now. Thanks to Debra Gatto of Time 2 Travel for the tip.

The Events:
Friday, February 24 - Sunday, February 26th
Fabulous Bridal Affair - Help Find A Cure For Breast Cancer
Millennium Biltmore Hotel
506 South Grand Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90071
Choose from over 1,000 beautiful, NEW gowns, size 4 – 24, save up to 85% off, AND Support Breast Cancer Research. Plus, if you pledge a gift to your own favorite charity in the name of your wedding, you can save an additional $100. Downside? Non-existent.

Sunday, February 26th
10:00am - 4:00pm
Bride World Expo
Warner Center Marriott Woodland Hills
21850 Oxnard St
Woodland Hills, CA 91367
Admission: $10.00

The Deals:
The Knot Store is knee-deep in a clearance sale on their wedding party gifts and ceremony and reception essentials, like these cool parasols.

Speaking of the I Ching of The Pretty, Vera Wang has just launched a new wedding app on iTunes. BUT it's only free to download until the end of February, which is next week, so GO. Dresses and cakes and a way to tap into Vera's style. Sigh.

More pretty - Shop Lovella Bridal's Collection this weekend, and you'll get a $500 gift certificate for any of your wedding accessories.

Free Silhouette Monograms on Wedding Chicks - Add your colors, add your names, and you can put them on anything you want, DIY or choose from one of W.C.'s products. I kind of like the tote bag, myself.

For more stories, events and deals during the rest of the week, follow me on Facebook, or on twitter @SilverCharmEvnt. I've got your back.

Have a great week and I'll see you at the end of the aisle,

Scenes From a Bridal Show

Bridal Showplace, Knott's Berry Farm Resort Hotel, Sunday, February 19th

I got to speak, but I also had a booth, so I was doing double-duty. More public speaking was one of my goals this year, and I'm not exactly a natural? I'm still more comfortable one-on-one, but I'm getting the hang of it. I got to speak twice on Sunday, and at the end I wanted to jump on stage and do it again.

There is something in there, though. The focus of my speech was how to stress less when you're planning your wedding. I know exactly where the stress comes from - and the multiple "wheres" it comes from - and although a lot of it is self-created, a lot of it comes from the uncertainty of not knowing what the hell you're doing. Or, depending on where you are in the process, not knowing what to do next. How were you supposed to know Wedding World's byzantine rules if you've never done this before?

I talked to one bride yesterday who had picked her venue, but didn't know how to decorate it. And really worried and stressed about it. And it felt really good to take a few minutes with her and talk about what she can do to do ju-ju up the place, and watch her physically relax. As much as I love getting paid to help couples plan their weddings, I just love helping couples with their weddings. I'm here to serve, :-)

Wedding Stress = It's either The Money or Your Family

At least, that's where most of the stress seems to come from. Money seems to be the biggest issue, no matter what your budget is. You have THIS much to spend, and how do you spend it so you can have the wedding you want? You are constantly faced with choices - how do you make the right ones? And everyone has an opinion on what you should do, which is where your family comes in, most of the time.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: If I could change one thing for you, it would be to make your family stop acting like your family while you're planning your wedding. But they won't, and that's something you have to deal with. It's also a great opportunity to deal with it differently. At this point, you know what's going to lead to an argument, so don't go there. Try something else: Affirm what you want calmly ("I really like this and want this"), and walk away. You might have to do it a few times, but keep doing it. First of all, it's true. Second of all, you're going to get your way, anyway, so why start a fight? And don't give into blackmail. If the only way they will help you out financially is if you do it their way, decline. Or try guilt - this is your wedding, and it's the one day you get to celebrate who the two of you are as a couple. Turnabout in this case, is fair play. The important thing is to respond and then leave, either physically, or just change the subject. Do NOT try and make your family understand. They won't.

The money...The money. The important thing is not to focus on what you don't have, but make the most out of what you DO have. In this Wedding World there is a ton of inspiration out there, and a ton of choices. If you find something that you really, really want, keep looking until you find out how to get it in a way that you can afford it. The key is to focus on what you're passionate about, and then hang in there. Cut corners elsewhere so you can get that thing you're in love with. Buy the Christian Louboutin on ebay. Buy Vera Wang on ebay. Stalk etsy.com. Ask for help. Hell, ask ME for help - whether you need a wedding coordinator or not, I can certainly point you in the direction of reasonably priced letterpress invites (Hint: Crane & Co is having a sale!). Do you what you can with what you have, where you are.

New To Me: Pinterest

I signed up for Pinterest a couple of months ago, but only started pinning, oh, yesterday. It's the same reason I didn't want to start planning my wedding nine years ago - I feared I would become obsessed. Pinning The Pretty, pinning the cool. I've been at this for the past 1.5 hours and I already have 9 boards and 30 pins. And I haven't gotten through a 10th of my weddings that have been blogged. Facebook, Twitter, blogging, Pinterest. Oy.

This is my favorite thing today that I found on Pinterest:

Is that not the cutest? You can pick up your own here.

Oh, yeah, I'm definitely in love with this site. Check out what else I've picked up at pinterest.com/lizcharm/
