Every Wednesday I bring you the best wedding stories, deals and events in Los Angeles and around the web. And we call it Wedding Wise Wednesday. Welcome!

Wedding Thing of the Week:

What's all the rage in Hong Kong these days? Getting married at McDonalds. You heard me. According to L.A. Weekly, for less than $1700 you get a slew of their menu classics, decorations featuring the iconic arches in pink , a "balloon" wedding dress (I'm gonna need to see that at some point) and wedding cake. I'm assuming the menu would include all the fries you can eat, right? And this hasn't hit the States yet because why?

The Events

Saturday, February 19
Open Hotel at Hotel Maya
10:00 AM - 2:00 PM
700 Queensway Drive
Long Beach, CA 90802

Watch a Mock Wedding Ceremony and see what their reception room looks like when it's all set-up. The catering staff and other wedding professionals will be on hand to answer all your questions, and drinks and hors d'ourves will be served. Admission is free, but To RSVP, please call 562-481-3897 or email Nicole at

POP, the Bridal Event

Did you guys see the Groupon for this last week? I'm going to be there, and so is David Tutera! Even though it's in Glendale, this is one of those "Beverly Hills" shows I talk about - couture gowns, couture vendors, and lots of yummy cake. These shows are a lot of fun, and they can be educational, too.

Prices range from $600-1400, and some are available up to size 16. Yeah, I definitely need to have a vow renewal now. Thanks to Wedzilla for the heads up and the pic.

DIY'ing the bar at your wedding reception? Well, then you'll be happy to know that BevMo's 5 cent sale is ON. Buy one bottle of wine, get the second one for 5 cents. And since you're going to need one bottle of wine for every four people, it's time to stock up.

Urban Outfitter has also launched its bridal collection, BHLDN, this week - wedding gowns ranging from $1,000 - $4,000, bridesmaid dresse, veils, shoes and even cake pedestals and invites.

A Love Letter To The Newbie Brides

Re-printed from my article on The Broke Ass Bride, one of the best places on the web for wedding advice and inspiration, spend, splurge, or save.

Dear Newbie Bride:

Let me be the 50th person to congratulate you on your engagement. Welcome to Wedding World!

You’re going to love it.

First of all, at the end of all this, you’re going to be married to the love of your life. That’s cool. Second of all, Wedding World is very, very pretty, so you’ll have a lot of neat stuff to look at for the next few months. Third of all, you are going to learn so much. Not just about weddings, but about yourself, your relationship with the love of your life, and more importantly, about what you do and do not want, in general.

Here’s a hint: Just like in life, you can have pretty much whatever you want at your wedding, using whatever it is that you already have. Yes, I’m talking about money, but I’m also talking about personal skills and resources, and time. Time is very important in wedding world – you have plenty of it. Even if you don’t think you do, you do.

Ah, yes, money. Things can get kind of expensive in Wedding World. This can be daunting for those of who can’t spend untold thousands of dollars on one day. If you can’t afford it, then don’t spend it. Bottom line. REFUSE to spend it, and find alternatives that works. This is why God made etsy. And ebay. And craigslist, even. And the internet in general, including this site, where at any time you can pop in and ask any of us a question. I LIVE for wedding planning questions. Literally. Don’t give up. Giving up is stupid.

Will it be stressful? Well, of course. Yes, at some point, you’re going to want to run screaming away from everything. So, take a break, and run away. Your wedding will still be there when you return. Step back and remember what’s at the end of the aisle: Married to the love of your life, surrounded by your favorite people, eating cake, all while wearing a beautiful dress. When it’s over, you’re going to say to yourself, “wow, that went by really fast”, and it will. Enjoy it as much as you can, even if that means occasionally not dealing with it at all.

Did I mention all the Pretty? I did? Good. Did I mention how much fun you’re going to have? You are going to have such a good time. You are going to try on gorgeous dresses, and you’re going to have that Christmas Morning Moment when you see yourself in THE dress. You’re going to taste really good cake. You are going to laugh with the love of your life, and with your bridesmaids, and with your PHOTOGRAPHER even, over some inside joke, or something hilariously freaking funny/stupid thing one of you did or said. You will laugh about these for the rest of your life. On your wedding day, you will be surrounded by everyone you love and everyone who loves you. Your favorite music will be playing, your favorite foods will be served, and I’m not exactly sure what else you’ll need to have a great time. It’s all there for you.

And at the end of that aisle, you will have accomplished so much more than you ever thought you were capable of. You are going to feel like a Superstar. And you’re right. You are.

If you weren’t able to tell, I’m very excited for you. And I can’t wait to hear all about it...

See you at the end of the aisle,

Elizabeth and Garrett - January 16th

Location and Catering: Saddle Peak Lodge, Calabasas
Photography: Kerry Corcoran, David Michael Photography
Cake: Saddlepeak
Flowers: Tenny Son, Sunshine Florist
Band: Fifth Avenue Music
Shuttle: Roadrunner Shuttle and Limousine Service

Elizabeth and Garrett hosted 75 of their nearest and dearest last month, at this restaurant in the hills of Calabasas. First of all, Saddlepeak was a budget win, because Food and Beverage for a Sunday was $4,000. Secondly, it's just GORGEOUS.

Everyone had the best time on the dance floor, the band was amazing. And if you ever have the chance to go up there for brunch, try the desserts - the cake was made by their in-house pastry chef and he will change your life.
