Don't Mess With the Dress!

First of All, L.A. Style Unveiled just posted my article on putting together a Wedding Day Timeline, so take a look and let me know what you think.
Second of all, two of my favorite photographers, Jen and Nate with B&G Photography, are donating a percentage of their fees to Doctors Without Borders's efforts in Haiti, for clients signing up between now and February 14th. Click on the link for more details. Not only do they shoot wonderful wedding photos, but they do family portraits as well.

How's everyone's week been? Mine? BUSY. On Wednesday, I went dress shopping with one of my brides at La Soie Bridal in Pasadena. Dress shopping is...interesting. I've been doing this for a few years, and one thing I've learned (the hard way) - you don't mess with the dress. When you try a dress on, it's either the dress you want to wear on your wedding day, or it isn't. Your wedding should be about what you want, and your personality, not what your friends and family think you should have, and this applies to your dress, too.
We started out over the weekend at Rose Petal Bridal's sample sale, but no go. She had a specific dress in mind, and La Soie had it, so off we went. And what was funny, and it happens all the time, was when she DID try on the dress, she wasn't thrilled with it. Luckily, they have a lot more dresses, and we found one that she really liked. Came back the next day to put down the deposit and get her measurements, and she pulled me aside - she wasn't sure about that one, either, but should she just get it anyway? Her friends thought she looked great in it, it was the right price...uh, NO. Despite the vaguely panicked look on the salesperson's face (and who could blame her, really?), Cara tried on a couple of dresses and finally came out with with a big huge smile on her face. This was the one! And guess what? It cost $300 less the one she'd originally picked. Love it when that happens. And, no, the dress in the picture is not the one she picked because, you know, duh. Next stop - wedding site search. We'll be checking out prospects tomorrow, starting with the Oviatt Penthouse and Cicada, both downtown. You can't mess with the venue, either.

Wedding Wise Wednesday - Late Edition

Every Wednesday, I post the coolest stories and the best deals in Los Angeles and around the web. And we call it Wedding Wise Wednesday. Welcome!

How's everyone enjoying the New Year? I've been on a positive buzz ever since January 1, I just KNOW 2010 is going to rock!

So, here's the plan. You know how I've been doing bridal show and trunk show reviews for the past couple of months? Well, guess who's decided to participate this year, rather than just observe? Get into the game, as it were?
Yup, I will have a table at the Premiere Bridal Show in Manhattan Beach this Sunday, from 11am - 4pm. And I'm doing something a little out of the box - a bridal show treasure hunt! Yes, the first 15 people who come by my table and sign up, will get a list of all the things they need to find on the bridal show floor, and when they come back, they'll get a pretty cool gift, if I do say so myself. More info in the next couple of days, but go ahead and register for the show online, which will save you a couple of dollars. Plus, I'll be live-twittering from the show, too.

Squee of the Week:
Free Save the Date templates at Wedding Chicks. They have one for every month in 2010 and 2011. Check it out, SO gorgeous! And they give you instructions on how to put them together:

The Squee, Too:
Dessert Bars are SO 2009. How about a Popcorn Buffet? Mix up your flavors and colors, put them in pretty vases or fun, fun buckets, throw them in bags, throw in some scoops, and you've got something your guests will talk about for years. Thanks to Bride Tide and the Austin Wedding Blog for the tip.

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a great one. Mine was awesome - I got to marry people! Karen and Will emailed me about a month ago. They wanted to get married on 1/01/10, and they needed someone to perform the ceremony. I was impressed- in three weeks they found Tivoli Terrace in Laguna Beach, which is usually closed on New Year's Day, but was willing to open up for a couple of hours for the ceremony ($500, which is a frickin' steal), a dress from David's Bridal, a beautiful bouquet (she handed Will a picture of what she wanted, he handed her the bouquet right before the wedding) and wedding rings. Girl after my own heart. Will's reaction when he saw her coming up the stairs in her dress? "Wow." I concurred:

So, at exactly 1:00pm on 1/01/10, there we were:

With the Happy Couple:

My assistant Maeline tagged along for the free ride to Disneyland afterward, and took these great pics. Karen and Will had a great photographer was Sam Chen with L.A. Color, and Maeline pretty much shadowed him after the wedding:

Karen bursts into laughter, as picture posing gets the best of her. Happens to us all:

I love my job. Can you blame me? This Saturday, I get to perform Karen and Jason's wedding in Pasadena, so Yay!

See you at the end of the aisle,
