My Favorite Posts of 2009

I have just LOVED writing the blog this year, and before I head off to a fabulous party with my friends this evening, here's a list of my ten favorite blog posts, if I do say so myself:

10. Top Ten Green Wedding Tips
Best ways to green your wedding day. Reduse, recycle, reuse, baby.

9. The $28,000 Wedding
The average cost of a wedding in Los Angeles is $28,000, which sounds vaguely insane on the face of it. Let's take a look at that breakdown, shall we?

8. The $10,000 Wedding
On the other end of the spectrum, the $10,000 wedding? A lot of people's dream, and here's how to make it possible.

7. How to Swing A Bridal Show
How to get the most out of Wedding Planning's first rite of passage. Tons of them are coming up next month!

6. Review: Martha Stewart's Online Wedding Expo
A great idea, pulled off almost flawlessly. Duh, it's Martha!

5. Wedding Tree Guestbook
Just the most squee-worthy idea of 2009, ever. I will be pimping this idea until one of my bride's does it.

4. The Quickie Wedding – Planning the Big Day in Six Months or Less
Totally doable, even with out of town guests. I planned my own wedding in 6 months, and the fastest wedding I ever coordinated professionally was in six weeks. And both weddings had guests that were coming from out of town. Here's how to pull it off.

3. The FYI of DIY
This one is kinda cheating, because it's not a post from my blog, but a guest post I wrote for L.A. Style Unveiled. What you need to know about your DIY wedding.

2.How to Survive Wearing High Heels on Your Wedding Day
Comfort is very important on the big day. Like you don't have enough to think about with your feet hurting!

1. The Rice Crispy Wedding Cake
Just...Sigh. I've already got my friend Maeline working on making this one for me. For something. I haven't decided for what, but I WILL be in the presence of one of these in the new year. I love it, because it IS DIY I could do, it WILL be delicious, and could you just imagine walking into a room and seeing this. Yumminess.

Also, much thanks to all the brides and grooms I worked with this year. You guys were wonderful, and it was an honor, not to mention tons of fun, to be a part of your wedding day. And what's really cool is that tomorrow I get to perform a wedding ceremony in Laguna Beach, and I can't think of a better way to start off the New Year. Can't wait to see what the rest of 2010 has in store!

Wedding Wise Wednesday - December 23, 2009

Every Wednesday, I post the coolest stories, deals in events in Los Angeles and around the web - and we call it Wedding Wise Wednesday. Welcome!

First of all, Happy Holidays, y'all. Second of all, if you haven't seen my tweet, Weddingish is having a fabulous in-store sale that ends today for those you looking for only last minute gifts - everything in the store is 50% off. Weddingish is at 10210 Riverside Drive, Toluca Lake, CA 91602, and is open until 6pm tonight. You can also give them a call at 818.980.4188 , and ask to speak to Raya. Awesome stuff - this where I got my rhinestone encrusted cake cutting set. Which was $40. Which you can now get for $20. See what I mean?

Broke Ass Bride in Destination Weddings and Honeymoons

Got a heads up from Dana, one of my favorite local wedding divas - she's got a piece in the January/February 2010 issue about saving money on your destination wedding. It's all about networking. First thing is to find out who else is getting married at the same place, around the same time, and start from there. It might be possible to share decorations, shipping costs, even your photographer or DJ. Less is more in this case. It's on the stands now, or you can read Dana's article on her website at www.thebrokeassbride.com

DC Legalized Same-Sex Marriage. Let's Keep it That Way, Okay?

So proud of my adopted home town! The Mayor has signed it into law, but Unfortunately, some members of Congress are trying to veto it, either by overturning it directly, or attaching a rider to another piece of legislation to overturn it. They have 30 days, until January 19, to do it, so go to Credo Action and sign a petition that will be sent to your representative in Congress, in support of the new law. As of today, they've gotten 3,856 of the needed 5,000 signatures. Sign the petition and pass this info along!

Next week, we're going to say Goodbye to 2009 with the Silver Charm Awards - the Best of Charmed Weddings for the year. Until then, Happy Festivus, Merry Christmas, and enjoy!

Wedding Wise Wednesday - Never Hijack Another Girl's Wedding

Every Wednesday, I post the best Wedding Stories, tips, deals and events I find every week, in Los Angeles and around the web. And we call it Wedding Wise Wednesday. Welcome!

Hijacking Other People's Weddings?

Over at The Articulate Ramblings of the Attorney-at-Mom, Caroline is discussing a bit she heard on KISS-FM. Ryan Seacrest and Company were discussing "hijacked weddings", where a member of the wedding party or a guest does something to turn the attention totally onto them, and away from the couple getting married. For instance, the bridesmaid that made a toast announcing her own engagment, or the groomsmen who proposed to another bridesmaid during the first dance. Let's just say that one ended in fireworks, there's more on the blog. I commented on the post, but basically? If you're going to pull something like that at someone else's wedding, WARN THEM. I'm sure the bride and groom would be more than happy to suggest a way to make your happiness less tacky and intrusive. Like, make the announcement themselves, or let you have the mic at some point to propose. Give them a head's up. Less hard feelings, less objects thrown at your head.

Broke Ass Bride Has Finished Her Site Re-Design!

And it's Bee-You-Tea-Full! She's also starting a consultation service, geared towards helping Brides save money on their weddings, and she would know. Check it out.

AND Eco-Beautiful Weddings Magazine just premiered their first issue, which, in the spirit of being eco-beautiful, is only available online. Take a look at their blog, too, while you're there.

The Deals:

Wedding Outlet: 12 Days of Christmas
Wedding Outlet has a great sale going on right now. Lots of beautiful wedding stuff for sale, lots of jewelry and other items that would make great gifts, all available with a 12% discount when you use the code "12Days" at checkout. Enjoy!

Tic-Toc Couture Florals
has a special offer, too, now until February - 10% off any order, and that includes your wedding bouquet. What I love is that on their website, they also break down their arrangements by price, which is nice. That price also includes "sky is the limit", which is helpful, you know. Call Eddie Zaratsian at 323. 874.3034, and tell him that you saw it here. See how pretty:

I would not kick that centerpiece out of bed for eating crackers. GO.

Events
Alfred Angelo is holding a series of trunk shows in the next week in their stores in Southern California:

December 16 - 22nd
Beverly Hills - Plus-Size Trunk Show
Huntington Beach - Sapphire Trunk Show
Rancho Cucamonga - Piccone Trunk Show

I can't believe that next week is Christmas already! Craziniess, and of course, I have shopped for NO ONE. Do you think everyone will mind getting Starbucks and itunes cards? Hmm...

Taglyan Complex and L.A. Photo Party's 360 Degrees of YOU

First of all, a big pat on the back to the D.C. City Council, who voted to legalize Gay Marriage today. So proud, so proud of my adopted hometown!

So, L.A. Photo Party invited me to the Taglyan Cultural Center's Open House last month, where they were premiering their new 360 degree photo booth at the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce's Holiday party. Here's what me and boys were able to come up with:

Brand the background, put on the crazy hats and glasses, and let the camera spin! The photo booth is about three times bigger than normal, so there's plenty of room for plenty of your guests. And like their regular photo booth, all the pics will be available for you and your guests online. Oh, and since you can't tell from this picture, I promised to mention that all the guys working the booth are VERY handsome!

Taglyan is a beauty, you guys:

I spoke to their event coordinator, Christine Zohrbians who told me that Taglyan is just a great alternative to having your reception at a hotel or another non-descript space. It's a one stop shop - They have an in-house caterer and florist, and as you can see by the pics on their site, they can pretty much make your wedding dreams come true. Plus, since the Complex is a non-profit associated with the St. John Armenian Church adjacent to it, there may be a little something-something in there tax-wise for you. Rates are based on catering, which starts at $100 per person. Email Christine at fancythatevents@gmail.com or give her a call at 818.621.3508.

And last but not least - Time to Re-boot my Quicksilver Service! There's more on the link on the right, but basically? I take over your wedding venue and vendor search. You get on with your life. Act Now.

See you at the end of the aisle,

Friday is A Good Day to Bring the Squee!

So, Designer Alina Pizanno invited me to her holiday party this week, during which yummy mojitos were served, for one, AND I got another opportunity to drool over this one particular dress in her store:

No, but wait until you see the detail:

Hand-stitched lattice work. Gorgeous.

Wedding Aces
has a great article on their blog, extolling the virtues of having your wedding in the rain, featuring Mindy and Johnson's beautiful wedding in Vermont, which was shot by Susan Stripling, and first written about in Green Wedding Shoes. Their wedding site actually reminds me a lot of Temescal Gateway Park in the Santa Monica Mountains. So, I'm oohing and ahhing, and then this showed up:

White peonies. Hand-wrapped in twine. I turned into Rachel Zoe for a minute - To.DIE. Do yourself a favor and take a look at the rest of the pictures. Total endorphin rush.

Speaking of bringing the Squee, for those of you who missed last week's round of fabulous wedding dress sample sales, Jobyna's Bridal is holding theirs this Sunday, at their Off the Rack location in Glendale - 805 E. Wilson Glendale, CA 91206. CALL FOR AN APPOINTMENT - (818) 248-0026.

Have a great weekend and I'll see you at the end of the aisle,

Wedding Wise Wednesday - December 9, 2009

Oh! I had dinner with Cheryl and Paul on Monday, whose wedding I coordinated back in October at Griffith Park, so this is as good a time as any to share the impossibly AWESOME pics B&G Photography took:

See all the smiling and laughing? This is like, how they are, ALL THE TIME. Check out the rest of their pics on Jen and Nate's blog.

The Tips:

Speaking of Jen of B & G Photography, she just started blogging at the Knot, in their Los Angeles Weddings Section. She found a bakery, A Sweet Design, that makes wheat-free wedding cakes, for those of the allergy-prone among us (you know who you are). Thanks, Jen!

Over at Wedding Aces, they lay out the wedding album process for you, from start to finish - what happens after your pictures are taken, how long it takes to put together the album, all that stuff. Knowing, as they say, is half the battle...

DIY Weddings are all about the details, like...what are you going to use for napkins? 100 layer cake has the answer - Restaurant tea towels. Inexpensive, recyclable, and they even tell you where you can get them. Love that!

The Deals:

60% off coupon for Michaels. Yes, I'm serious. Only good until this Saturday, September 12th, so GO. Thanks to Westside Wedding for this one.

Snippet and Ink posted a SLEW of wedding deals a few days ago - rings, invitations and stationery, Jimmy Choo shoes for crying out loud, all of which are good until at least the end of the month. You're welcome!

The Give-Aways:

Today, until next Wednesday, the 18th, you can download a recording of my Recession Bride's workshop for free, and get access to more money saving tips on my website. Click on the Workshop link on the bar on the left to get started, or go directly to the page by clicking here.
Jazyrain Letterpress is giving away a customized marriage certificate. NOT the one you get in the mail from the county, but an absolutely gorgeous one you fill out right after your ceremony, which you are going to trip over yourself to get framed and hang on the wall. Find out the details at Style Unveiled.

The Events:
Slow weekend coming up, but Sample Sale Season is not over yet. Jobyna's Bridal is holding theirs this Sunday, at their Off the Rack location in Glendale - 805 E. Wilson

Friday Wedding News Dump

Look at that. As if I could lead with anything else. Belle Magazine has all the details on how to make this. Not only is it DIY I can do, but it's DIY that I'll be doing for my friend's holiday party in a couple of weeks. And would this make an unbelievable wedding reception centerpiece, or what? Thanks to Natalie Bradley for the tip, as always.

More Pretty From Style Me Pretty:
A lovely, lovely wedding in Tennessee, shot by Natalie Wilson from Watson Studios. Tosha and Will's wedding also featured one of my favorite money and time saving tips - forego the place cards, put everything on a big blackboard. $10-20 on Amazon, depending on the size. You'll find something to do with the blackboard after the wedding, trust me. Frankly, I could use one of those in my office right now. Hmm...

Wedding Wise Wednesday - December 2nd

Every Wednesday, I post the coolest wedding stories and deals in Los Angeles and around the web. And we call it Wedding Wise Wednesday. Welcome!

I really, really, wanna know if anyone took advantage of any of the Black Friday wedding dress sales. If you did or you know someone who did, comment below or email me at liz@silvercharmevents.com.

I had an impossibly relaxing holiday weekend, during which I only left the house, like, twice. Vacation, all I ever wanted...

But on Sunday, I went to the first White Satin Wedding Show in Pasadena. Many props to them for holding it on a holiday weekend. It was small, but that meant that you could actually talk to all the vendors one-on-one, which I think is really important for brides. PLUS, talk about Squee, where should I start? How about here:

Alina Pizzano, whose dresses were featured in the fashion show, got together with another of the vendors in the show, Rose City Ballroom, and outfitted their dancers with her designs. So, they spent the whole show twirling, twirling, twirling in her dresses. And since the room was so small, Alina also had two other models circulating the room in her gowns. Needless to say, both booths were pretty busy. Rose City is also having a special - mention the show or this blog and get one free week of membership, and learn how to twirl around the dance floor in your wedding gown, too!

The Deals:
Okay, so Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden in Long Beach is having a having a plethora of deals. If you have your wedding ceremony there in December, February or March, their rates go down to $1995, and if you have your wedding AND ceremony during the week, Monday-Thurs, of course), you save $25%. You can spend the difference on mushroom heaters. Tell them you saw the special on Wedding Wire.

Wedding Paper Divas is offering a couple of great specials, too - Free Standard Shipping and Complimentary proofs. Their invites really bring the pretty, so check them out.

Speaking of pretty, and I know I've spoke of them before, Adorn Brides is offering 10% off their beautiful jewelry rentals, when you use the code WWPRO1001
