Meanwhile, Back at the Office

I never get to leave a wedding early, of course. But Wedding Lens has some advice on how to leave a reception gracefully, if you need to.

This week has been a little crazy, which isn't too much of a surprise, coming back from vacation. You know how that goes. You hurry beforehand to get as much stuff done before you leave, and then you spend days after you get back trying to catch up. So, this week has been all about finding Nancy a place to have her beach wedding next spring, talking invitations with Cheryl and Paul for their wedding in October (we're going to knock those out tomorrow night). I also had a consultation with Amy about her wedding next year at the Japanese Garden. She's thinking about a yellow and gray color scheme, which is just really cool. I love the stuff you guys come up with. I sent her to wedding rumors, which is all about the color schemes. Right now, they're featuring a beautiful brown and copper inspiration board, so check it out.

Last night, I went with Kamala and Eric to their tasting at Michael C. Events. Yummy Indian food, with his own special twist on traditional recipes. And he sent us all home with boxes of food, too, which my husband really appreciated.

And, hey, I forgot to tell you - I DID get to perform a wedding while I was in San Diego last week. Not at Comic-Con per se, but...near it. At my hotel. I love marrying people. Here they are, Erin and Howden:

Yay!

A One Hour Engagement session, 6 Hours of shooting by 2 photographers, Professional Make-up for the bride, 50 5X5 Art prints, and 2 11X14 prints. Deadline is August 21st to enter, AND I’m going to throw in admission to the next Recession Bride’s Workshop on August 23rd for the winner, and a one-on-one wedding “tune-up” session, where we’ll sit down and you can ask me for all the advice and referrals you need, so start making a list now.

Now, the Deals:

Candy Buffets Rule

One of my favorite ideas for favors is having a candy buffet, with little bags for your guests. Both Brides A La Mode and Always a Blogsmaid have great posts on how to put them together - Relatively simple and inexpensive and you shouldn't have any trouble getting rid of the candy by the end of the night, you know? I'm going to use their tips to set one up at the Recession Bride's Workshop next month, too, and I'll give you all the details right here. I'm thinking about going with a green theme, to symbolize all the money you're going to save...

Back in Los Angeles

One of the great things about going on vacation is coming back from Vacation. Even with all the emails.

I was really sorry that I missed the Frugal Festival, but it got mad coverage today in the Los Angeles Times and the Daily News, so yay, Bargain Babe! I hear tell that she's doing it again in a few months, so I will see you there.

Weddings...weddings. Oh, that's right, over at Broke-Ass Bride, Dana is trying her best to ruin your wedding diet, so enjoy. Monkey bread. Good Grief, Woman.

Wedding Wise Wednesday - All About Etsy

I can’t spend too much time on Etsy.com because I will buy things. Lots and lots of things. But I’m risking it, because it’s also the place to get great wedding deals. Many of the sellers on Etsy are artists and designers, selling their original works. They also sell antique and vintage items, and tons of things made out of recycled and recyclable materials. My friend, photographer April Rocha has an Etsy store, which is how I first heard of it. It’s just awesome.

So, how is Etsy going to help you save money on your wedding?

Enter in what you're looking for, if you want it handmade, vintage or either, put in a price range if you want, and click "search". Or, if you want to request a custom item that you aren’t able to find on the site, visit the Alchemy page - post what you need, and sellers bid on making it or providing it for you.

Wedding Wise Aftermath and Emotionally Preparing for Your Wedding

This Always Happens on Thursdays:

Got the Wedding Wise Post all set, happy as a clam. And then on THURSDAY, someone announces something like, "Name Your Own Price on In-Stock and Sample Gowns." Thanks, I appreciate that.

I also found Before the Wedding, Prepare Your Heart in the Los Angeles Examiner, today, too. Sooo good! Here's my favorite part:

Prepare Your Heart. Make sure you have scheduled time immediately before your ceremony for contemplation, meditation, affirmations, prayer, relaxation exercises, breathing, yoga, singing, or whatever makes you calm and happy--what I call “preparing your heart.” By this I mean more than 30 seconds of rote recitations and then cracking your knuckles and growling “Ready!" Preparing your heart means you take the time to be still, calm, centered, and grateful you have love in your life before you walk down the aisle.

Stop and take a minute to realize that this is all here for you, and the love of your life. Enjoy.

See you at the end of the aisle,

Liz C.

Wall Street Journal Gets on Board With the Budget Wedding Thing

Last Wednesday, the WSJ came out with I Do...For Less, which lists the many ways that you can and should save money while planning your wedding. Apparently there's a Recession, or something. They also interviewed Cora, who writes the 12k Wedding. I would like to stress that if you do even ONE of these, you're going to save thousands of dollars. THOUSANDS. And I was pretty proud that I cover the majority of these during my workshop. So, there.

Pashmina Shawls are Great for L.A.'s cool wedding summer nights. Would you like win some?

Life and Love are Everywhere, so embrace them and say Amen

When I first saw this, I thought it was a parody of what's usually in the "Vows" section of the New York Times - Investment Banker marries young socialite at her parents' house in the Hamptons - but no, this is for real. Two people who are doing the best to move forward and change their lives for the be heading? I read in Salon that they got a lot of flack for publishing this. Good on 'em.

The Weekend is Made for Weddings

First of all, congrats to my husband's sister Tristan and the man of her dreams, Jason, who are getting married tomorrow. I just got back from the Bridal Shower, and it's just so cool to be surrounded by so much love and good feelings. We had to hand Tristan several tissues and napkins while she opened presents and cards, she was crying so much. So sweet!

Jill at Catch My Party posted a mini-interview with me on her blog, which you can read. Think of it as a mini-Recession Bride's Workshop, although you can still attend the real one next Sunday.

And welcome to the newest Workshop sponsor, The Wedding Outlet. So much good stuff, and only 24 hours in the day to enjoy it. I love the different color themes that you can choose from.

Speaking of Cool Stuff, Flowers and Mars has created Dress My Vase, a service that, well, dresses up your centerpiece vases. I'm not explaining right, just look at the website and marvel at what they're doing.

That's it for now. If I'm not able to post over the weekend, have a good one, and I'll meet you back here on Monday.

See you at the end of the aisle,

Liz C.

Wedding Wise Wednesday - July 8

Decorating Your Reception for Less:
Budget Savvy Bride is one of my Recessionista heroes - Yesterday she broke down how she saved so much money on her wedding decorations. She only spent $142 on centerpieces for 15 tables. Some of it is DIY, but as I've said before, if I can do it (and I am by no means the craftiest person in any room), then I feel safe in passing it on to you. But she did what I tell my workshop couples to do - keep it simple. Simple is often beautiful, too.

DIY, Part Deux
But, if you are a DIY-er, like I am not, Maria at livejournal explains exactly how she made wedding centerpieces and bouquets for a friend of hers, on a budget of $500, including the equipment and materials she used, prep work, what worked and what didn't,the works. Gorgeous results, too.

We Interrupt This Post for Something Really Funny:

Rob Greer, who I worked with last year at a wedding at Marvimon, decided to shoot Ken and Barbie's wedding. I'm still laughing at the "standard" shots of Barbie's shoes, and of Ken leaping over her head. Just awesome.

Free Shipping at Wedding Paper Divas:

Not only that, but Wedding Paper Divas is even going to let you combine the free shipping with a coupon for 10% off their signature collection, if you order by July 20th. Use the code "FREESHIP" for the well, shipping, and "Sale10" for the discount.

How to Weigh Zero Pounds on Your Wedding Day
Must be seen to be believed. Although I am wondering what they put for "location" on their marriage license...

We Interrupt This Post for the Coolest Wedding Invitations,Like, EVER:
Ariel over at Offbeat Bride just posted about a couple who sent out amazing, awesome 3-d view-finder invitations. Can you imagine getting a view finder in the mail? How cool is that? It makes me want to run out and rent the camera they used and 3-D everything. I dare you to resist the urge as well.

Bridal Shows, We've Got Bridal Shows!
Well, just one, actually, but it's the biggest, by far. I'm even dropping by it, even though my sister-in-law's wedding is a few hours later. Bride Expo L.A. County will be at the Los Angeles Convention Center this Saturday and Sunday, from 10am - 4pm both days. $10 admission, $8 if you register online.

That's it for this week.Make sure to sign up for the Recession Bride's Workshop on July 19th. You can use the code "WedCharmEarly" at checkout to get a $10 discount. Because really, why not start saving money right away? I'll see you there!

Toilet Paper Wedding Dresses and Temple of Groom's in-your-FACE win

Okay, she made this out of TOILET PAPER!
Cheap Chic Weddings held the contest, and this is the winner. And she made a hat to go with it. PLUS, the top six dresses are going to be displayed in Ripley's Believe It Or Not! Museum.

Over at Temple of Groom
, he threw down the final card in our ongoing debate over whether he has to have a cake at his wedding. And it's a doozy - Jack and Jackie Kennedy? Did not have wedding cake. HE PULLED THE KENNEDYS ON ME!!!I have no choice but to bow in concession.

Dana's crowing over at Broke Ass Bride because her new venture, Bride $Share, just got a shout out on Bride's Magazine's blog. Yay, Dana! But I mentioned it on my blog first, so there! Scooping Bride's Magazine is one of the many pleasures that I've had today. And it's been a pretty good day.
